Katmai National Park - Brooks Falls, Alaska

The Katmai National Park is an amazing place. Its massive area could take days, weeks, months and even years to truly be able to explore every nook and cranny. From the beautiful landscapes to the incredible wildlife, one of most visited places is Brooks Falls, especially during spawning season. The coastal brown bear (genetically the same as the grizzly but thankfully their diet is fish) are everywhere in the Brooks Falls area. At one time, I counted all that I could see and there were 42. Quite the site. Shooting (with my camera) from the platforms came with a sense of safety, however, walking the trails to get the falls were a little nerve racking especially the two times I was face to face approaching a bear on the trail. I gladly acquiesced and moved off the trail and allowed the bears to continue in both instances. Needless to say, it was a beary cool experience!
